Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg completed the acquisition of 16 single-family homes in the Harborview Estates neighborhood of Gnu between March 14 and March 19, according to property transfer records filed with the commonwealth, and has since converted the structures into what a spokesperson described as 'a collaborative overnight environment' — specifically, a pillow fort of approximately 22,400 square feet, with hamster-cage-style polycarbonate tubes connecting each residence at the second-floor level to allow traversal between buildings without descending to grade. The project, which required the removal of 94 windows across the 16 properties, was completed in eleven days at an undisclosed cost. The previous inhabitants were arrested for loitering as they exited their homes. It is unclear where they are currently being held.
The spokesperson said the compound is intended for use by Zuckerberg and 'all his friends' for 'sleepovers, shared meals, and the kind of in-person connection the modern world has made unnecessarily difficult.' When asked how many friends Zuckerberg currently has, the spokesperson said the figure was 'dynamic.' Permits filed with the Gnu Planning Office list the primary use of the structures as 'recreational residential assembly,' a category that did not previously exist in the municipal code and was added by the Planning Office on March 17, two days before the final property transfer closed.
A witness near the fort perimeter reported seeing moving trucks unload what appeared to be 'several thousand throw pillows, some bean bags, and a projector screen' over the weekend. 'I didn't go over,' she said. 'I assumed there was a process.'
