One person is dead and fourteen are injured following a Thursday afternoon transit of Heritage Observance Square by The Myanmarauders, a bicycle collective affiliated with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose representatives described the group's passage through the square as 'an unstructured community engagement ride' in a statement released approximately four minutes after the last rider cleared the area.
The Myanmarauders, a group of between 22 and 40 riders depending on the source — Meta's statement cited 22, witnesses cited 40, and City Clerk Patricia Voss's incident log cited 'a number consistent with significant property damage' — entered Heritage Observance Square at 2:11 p.m., the same east entrance where, as The News reported last month, immigration enforcement officers opened fire on one another after being exposed to a structurally sound anti-colonial argument. Thursday's injuries were of a different character: eleven were consistent with bicycle impact, two were described by Gnu General Hospital staff as 'friction-related,' and one, a 67-year-old resident who declined to be named, was reported dead on arrival with no further detail provided by the hospital, which noted that next-of-kin notification had been handled by a Meta communications contractor.
The ride was part of Zuckerberg's 'ongoing commitment to physical presence in communities where the company maintains real estate interests,' and The Myanmarauders had 'no fixed membership, no route, and no legal status as an organization.' Questions about liability should be directed to a subsidiary called Horizons Wellness Infrastructure LLC, registered in Delaware, which was dissolved the previous Tuesday.
Zuckerberg was not confirmed to have been present. A man in a gray moisture-wicking shirt, a gold chain, and an aero helmet who witnesses said led the group through the square declined to answer questions and executed a technically proficient track stand for approximately ninety seconds before riding north toward Gnu Harbor.
