Privacy
This page describes the real website’s data practices.
Traffic and performance
We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights for aggregate traffic and performance measurement. Web Analytics uses a temporary request-derived identifier that expires after 24 hours. We do not run a separate reader-tracking system or record your browsing session.
We measure public pages only and remove query parameters and URL fragments from measured page addresses. Admin, search and unsubscribe pages are excluded. Our hosting and database providers also process requests needed to operate the service and may maintain their own operational logs.
We also count clicks on links to stories, including whether the click came from the homepage, another story or another public page. These events contain the public page paths, without query parameters or URL fragments. We use them to improve navigation and story discovery.
You can stop future analytics events using the control below. Your preference is stored in this browser for 180 days, without a unique identifier. Previous opt-outs remain in effect. We also exclude browsers used for site administration and those sending Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. Vercel’s privacy information.
We also respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
Newsletter
We store your email address to send the Monday Dispatch. Each newsletter includes an unsubscribe link; opening it shows a confirmation page. Confirming stops future scheduled newsletters. We retain the opted-out address and its subscription status so it stays off the mailing list. Newsletter signup works independently of analytics.
Other services
Embedded YouTube videos and external links have their own privacy practices. This page’s analytics opt-out controls our Vercel traffic and performance events, not those external services.
